Recently, there was a recall from GM on certain Chevrolet trucks. And now, Ram issues a recall on 1.2 million trucks. While the Chevrolet issue could lead to steering instability, the Ram recall relates to an issue with the tailgate.

According to CNET, the recall affects around 1.2 million trucks, on 2019-2022 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 series models. The trucks affected have the standard base tailgate. This recall does not cover multifunction tailgates or Ram 1500 Classic models or trucks with tailgate sensors.

The recall addresses an issue with the tailgate's striker plates. In the affected vehicles, the plates may not be properly aligned. This could cause the tailgate to open while the truck is in motion. If the truck is carrying cargo that's unsecured, it could spill out of the truck, and lead to road hazards.

Currently, Ram has no record of accidents or injuries related to this recall. Reports on the issue do date back to 2019, but it wasn't until earlier this month they decided to address it.

A technician can inspect and realign the strikers on the tailgate to fix the issue. Ram will reimburse owners who paid out of pocket for this fix. The notification to truck owners will go out in late January.
