Brandon Bell/Getty ImagesAccording to Consumer Affairs, General Motors has a recall on a few models of Chevrolet trucks. The recall will affect almost 6,000 trucks. This includes 2021-2022 Chevrolet 4500HD/5500HD/6500HD models. The recall on these GM trucks is due to an issue with lock nuts.
Some of the hex flange lock nuts used in the suspension and steering joints were not properly heat-treated. Because of this, there is a chance the lock nuts could break. If broken, it could cause loss of tension, which leads to steering instability. This could increase the risk of a crash.
If you own one of the affected trucks, a dealership will replace the lock nuts free of charge. Notification letters about the recall on GM trucks should go out to owners around January 9, 2023.
