President Joe Biden announced this morning that WNBA star Brittney Griner has been released from a Russia detention center and is on her way home.
She was freed as part of an agreement in which the United States would release convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.
Griner spent 10 months in a Russian prison after officials found hash oil in her luggage. She pleaded guilty to drug smuggling charges and was sentenced to nine years in prison there.
U.S. Marine Paul Whelan, who is still in a Russian prison for alleged espionage, was not part of today's prisoner swap.
