Joe Raedle/Getty ImagesIt's been a political race like no other in Georgia. Early voting records were shattered almost daily in the race for the U.S. Senate seat in Georgia. Republican Herschel Walker and Democrat Raphael Warnock have been running neck-and-neck in the polls, so it's anybody's guess who will emerge the winner December 6. Warnock and Walker were the top vote-getters in the November 8 General Election, with Warnock winning 49.4% of the vote to Walker's 48.5%. A runoff was required since neither candidate got 50% of the vote, plus one.
More than 1.86 million Georgia residents have already cast a ballot in the runoff, either through early in-person or absentee voting. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said Friday's total of over 352,000 broke the previous one-day record for early voting in the 2016 presidential election. Nearly 31,000 registered voters have already cast an early ballot in Richmond County, while nearly 20,000 have already voted in Columbia County. There's no early voting today, then polls open at 7 a.m. Tuesday and stay open until 7 p.m. tomorrow. Absentee ballots must be turned in by 7 p.m. Tuesday to be counted.
If you haven't already voted early, you must go to your assigned polling place on Tuesday. Any voters who were registered by November 7 can vote in this runoff election. Remember, you must have a photo ID to vote. Valid forms of I.D. include a Georgia Driver's License, passport, military photo ID, an ID from any federal or state body of government, a government employee photo ID or tribal photo ID.
