Students and staff at Savannah High School were evacuated this morning after reports of an active shooter there.  The bogus report indicated six staffers and students had been shot at the school as the first period of school got underway.

Officials have confirmed the reports were a hoax.

Law enforcement officials from multiple jurisdictions responded to the active shooter report.  Parents were asked to go to The Pennsylvania Avenue Resource Center parking lot to meet their children.  Several other area schools were placed on lockdown while the incident was under investigation.

Officials with the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System released the following statement:

"Emergency responders are on site and searching Savannah High School and the Savannah Early College this morning in response to unconfirmed reports of a gunman in the area of the campus.  A lockdown was initiated at the school.  Emergency responders are evacuating students to a safe unification point while the search continues.  There is no information at this time to confirm that the reports are accurate, however, a full response to the potential threat is taking place for the safety of all occupants.  Parents will be provided information as to the reunification process with students when the all-clear is given."

Savannah-Chatham County Public School System officials say they will release more information about the incident when it becomes available
