Tests Confirm Remains Found in Savannah Landfill Belong to Quinton Simon

The FBI confirmed today that human bones found in a Savannah-area landfill belonged to 20-month-old Quinton Simon, whose mother is behind bars charged with his murder.

Twenty-two-year-old Leilani Simon reported her son missing from the family's home October 5.  Within a week after the report, law enforcement officials said they believed the child was dead.  They also said the child's mother was the primary suspect in the case, though she wasn't arrested until last week in Chatham County.

For weeks authorities had searched the landfill, believing that remains found there could belong to Quinton.  Tests at the FBI lab in Virginia confirmed that the remains were human.

"The FBI Laboratory Division has confirmed through DNA analysis the bones found in the Superior Landfill are those of missing 20-month-old Quinton Simon," the agency said in a statement released today.

In addition to murder, Leilani Simon has also been charged with concealing the death of another and making false statements, both felonies.

Authorities said no other arrests are expected in the case.
