Newly Elected School Board Member Takes His Own Life

A young local man who was just elected to the Richmond County School Board last week reportedly took his own life yesterday.

Twenty-year-old Tyrique Robinson, who ran unopposed in the election, was pronounced dead just after 4:00 p.m. at an apartment in the 1000 block of Alexander Drive.

Last Friday, the Cross Creek High School graduate was accused of using a local woman's credit card to make unauthorized purchases, allegations he said were not true.

Yesterday came word of Robinson's death, the youngest person ever elected to the Richmond County School Board.

The Richmond County School Board issued a statement, "We are deeply saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Mr. Tyrique Robinson.  His willingness to serve on the Board of Education and support our children is a testament to his interest in building a better community for us all.  Our sincere thoughts and condolences are with Mr. Robinson's family, friends and all whose lives he touched."
