A statement from Principal Tonia Ellis says James Mock allegedly used improper restraints to de-escalate a situation involving a student on Thursday, November 10. The student's parents were contacted and the student was evaluated by the school nurse. No injuries were reported at the time.
Mock was placed on administrative leave after the incident, pending the outcome of an investigation by Columbia County School District Police. Mock has since resigned and has been charged with simple battery. The incident has been reported to the Professional Standards Commission.
"Staff are routinely and professionally trained on how to properly de-escalate a situation while keeping students safe. The Columbia County School District never condones the use of improper restraint on students at any time. It is unacceptable and will not be tolerated," said Ellis.
