Less than one percentage point separated the two candidates, and neither had the required 50% of the vote, plus one needed to win outright. That means Walker and Warnock are headed to a runoff that will be held December 6. Both candidates have four weeks to convince voters to support them when they head to the polls next month.
Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, who won reelection last night, issued a statement today: "Ballots are being built as we speak, and counties are making preparations. This will be a very heavy lift for our counties because it's a four-week runoff period. But we have confidence they will take all the measures required to rise to the task."
Three U.S. Senate races, including Georgia, Arizona and Nevada, are too close to call and will require runoffs. Control of the Senate could once again be decided in Georgia based on the outcome of the runoff.
