The Columbia County Sheriff's Office says the vehicles collided just past the rest area.
A passenger in one of the vehicles, 24-year-old Mardrez Jackson of Washington, Georgia, was taken to Doctors Hospital where he died a short time later. An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of his death,
One of the drivers involved is in custody charged with vehicle homicide. The sheriff's office is expected to release more information about the collision and pending charges later this morning.
