Richmond County Authorities Investigating Infant’s Death, Following Death of Parent’s Other Child Last Year

Authorities continue to investigate what they say is a suspicious death involving a local six-month-old infant last night.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen says Samson Scott was transported to Augusta University Medical Center by EMS after he was reportedly found unresponsive in his family's home in the 1900 block of Watkins Street.

Scott was pronounced dead just after 11 p.m. Tuesday.  Bowen says an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

Meanwhile, the baby's mother, Salena Scott, has been charged with second-degree Cruelty to Children, but no other information has been released.

Just last year, Scott and her husband, Tyrone Scott, were charged with Murder and Cruelty to Children in connection with the death of their one-year-old son, Travis Scott.  An investigation revealed both parents ignored medical orders and turned Travis' ventilator off on several different occasions.  The baby had a lung disease and required a breathing tube.  At one point the baby became unresponsive and tests revealed no brain activity.
