Armed Robbery Suspect Captured in Burke County
A suspect is in custody following an overnight armed robbery and vehicle chase in Burke County.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office says the robbery was reported at 4:30 a.m. at the Taylor Brothers X-Press store on U.S. 25 North, just north of Waynesboro.
Deputies spotted a vehicle matching the description of the getaway car and began a pursuit. The suspect led police on a short chase that ended when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed near south Liberty Street. The suspect got out of the car and fled on foot.
Twenty-four-year-old James Drayton of Spartanburg was taken into custody after a brief foot chase. He’s been charged with Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.
