Governor Kemp ordered the activation of the State Operations Center as Hurricane Ian moves towards the Florida Gulf Coast. As a result, Florida residents are preparing for impact later this week along the west coast. Additionally, forecasters upgraded Ian from a tropical storm early Monday morning.
The State Operations Center released the following statement from Governor Kemp:
"I urge my fellow Georgians to monitor this storm as it evolves and calmly take the necessary precautions to keep their families and neighbors safe, if the storm continues to intensify. Throughout the week, I will work closely with GEMA/HS, the weather service, public safety organizations, and others to ensure we leave nothing to chance."
Currently, Tampa Bay and much of Florida's west coast are under a hurricane watch.
Hurricane Ian
Hurricane Ian became the fourth hurricane of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season. Governor Kemp is urging residents to monitor the storm. In addition, he is working with GEMA/HS to provide updates.
So far we are aware of one high school football game in the area that is moving the date. North Augusta's Varsity Football game with South Aiken has been moved to Thursday at South Aiken. The home JV game with South Aiken is now moved to 6pm at North Augusta HS.
