Columbia County Sheriffs Office Needs Help Identifying Men

A student at Evans High School has been charged with sexual battery. Officials say the male student made inappropriate physical contact with a female student. He used the Snapchat app to video the incident.  School officials say that the student will also be held accountable in accordance with the school district Code of Conduct.

Earlier this week, Columbia County School Police charged a Columbia Middle School student after threats were made against the school. The threats were allegedly made in the hallway between classes.

A news release from the Columbia County Board of Education says the threatening statement toward the school was heard by several students and staff in the hallway.

The student was immediately detained by Columbia County School District Police.  “He will be held accountable in accordance with the Code of Conduct. There was no disruption to the school day,” according to Principal Holly Barnes.

Officials say parents are encouraged to speak with their children about the seriousness of making threats of any nature, including joking with students or staff. Anyone should report suspicious activity or behavior to school administrators or by calling the district’s anonymous tip hotline at 706-541-3600.
