Homecoming Activities Will Continue in Richmond County
Shootings Outside Football Stadiums in the Area Prompts Security Changes in Aiken County
Discussion about safety at Richmond County schools and school district events was a big topic of conversation at Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting.
In the wake of recent weekend shootings outside football stadiums at Lucy C. Laney and T.W. Josey High Schools, one board member proposed temporarily suspending tailgating and homecoming activities at high schools.
The board voted to turn down the motion.
The board issued a statement: “Homecoming activities will continue with enhanced safety measures and plans to enforce board of education policy regarding items permissible on school property.”
Officials say they are asking the community to support safe celebrations by making sure they report any suspicious activities to authorities.
