A list of 297 schools across the country have been recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2022, including one in Columbia County.

U.S. Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, announced the list of schools being honored, based on overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

A total of six Georgia schools made the list, including North Columbia Elementary in Columbia County.  Other Georgia schools on the list include Jones Elementary in Bremen; Jefferson Elementary in Jefferson; Kings Chapel Elementary in Perry; Armuchee Primary School in Rome; and Trion Middle in Trion.

"I applaud all the honorees for the 2022 National Blue Ribbon Schools award for creating vibrant, welcoming, and affirming school communities where students can learn, grow, reach their potential, and achieve their dreams," said Cardona.
