Man Wanted for Child Molestation Incident Last Year

The Burke County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man who is wanted for alleged incidents involving a young girl more than a year ago. According to a news release, 35-year-old Luis Castaneda is a Guatemalan national who has contacts in the Waynesboro area and works in local construction.

Authorities say Castaneda is accused of kissing an 8-year-old girl on the lips multiple times and showing her a video of two people engaged in sex.  The mother of the victim says Castaneda had stayed at the family's home the night before, July 4, 2021, and had slept on the couch after  a 4th of July celebration.  He is reportedly related to the family.  A police report says Castaneda left and was headed to Alabama after he was confronted by the victim's father and told never to return.  The incident wasn't reported to authorities until recently when the family learned Castaneda returned to the area a week ago.
