UPS Plans to Hire 100,000 for the Holiday Season
United Parcel Service said today it plans to add 100,000 extra workers to handle the influx of packages expected during the holiday season.
The openings will be for full and part-time seasonal positions, primarily for package handlers, drivers and driver helpers. Industry officials say online sales rose after the pandemic began and although they have declined slightly they are still well above pre-pandemic levels.
UPS officials say they have streamlined the application process for seasonal positions. It takes roughly 25 minutes for most people, from filling out the online application to getting a job offer. Danelle McCusker Rees, president of human relations for UPS, said nearly 80% of seasonal jobs do not require an interview, which is up from 75% last year.
Rees also said about 35% of those who get hired for seasonal package-handling jobs wind up getting permanent positions.
