Just ahead of the holiday shopping season, Michaels Companies Inc. has announced it's hiring 15,000 people to work at its craft stores nationwide.

Michaels is holding its annual seasonal hiring event September 17 to fill available positions at stores and distribution centers in the U.S. and Canada.  Those who are interested can either apply in-person at stores that day from 12 to 4 p.m., or online.

Company officials say they're not hiring as many seasonal workers as usual so that hours can be increased for those who are hired.   Last year, Michaels hired over 20,000 seasonal workers,

Wage amounts will vary based on location.  Workers will not only get more hours, but they will also receive a 30% discount, flexible schedules and advancement opportunities.

"We see 50% of our seasonal team members convert to permanent positions each year, and many of our seasonal team members go on to be store managers and key leaders," said Michaels Chief Operating Officer Joe Venezia.
