Department of Transportation officials in both Georgia and South Carolina say lane closures will be restricted on interstate highways for non-emergency work over the long Labor Day weekend.

Heavy traffic is expected over the three-day weekend on the nation's highways and interstates as well as at airports across the country.

Restrictions will be in place in South Carolina starting at 6 a.m. Friday, September 2, through 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 6.  In Georgia, road work will be suspended starting at noon Friday, September 2, until 5 a.m. Tuesday, September 6.

Georgia DOT's five-day travel forecast for the holiday weekend indicates the heaviest traffic volumes are expected Friday with moderate traffic predicted on Saturday, and light traffic Sunday and Monday.

Drivers can get up-to-date information about travel conditions on interstates and state routes in Georgia and South Carolina by calling 511.  Information is also available online at www.511ga.org or www.511sc.org.
