A survey of 2000 of us looked at the connection between music and study habits and found that those that played music while studying were likelier to have a GPA above 3.2.

Let’s break down some of the results.

49% said that they regularly listen to music while studying and 60% say they were able to study better with some sort of sound on in the background.

58% of 18-25 year- olds noted that they listened to music while studying, compared to only 41% of 58-76 year-old respondents.

81% of those that listen to music while studying said it helps make the learning experience more enjoyable.

Some students only listen to music, but 30% listen to nature sounds while 24% listen to podcasts.

64% of the respondents felt that they had an easier time taking tests while 80% felt that they were more prepared for class.

This also extends to the workplace as two in three Americans listen to music while working.  89% said they feel more productive at work when listening to music while 84% said it makes them look forward to working more.

The average person spent five and half hours studying every week, those enjoying music were more likely to spend upwards of seven hours a week studying.

Hip-Hop – 22%

Pop/Top 100 – 21%
