Heavy Travel Expected for Labor Day Weekend
The long Labor Day weekend begins Friday, September 2, and millions are expected to travel over the three-day holiday as the summer season starts to wind down.
According to www.media.hopper.com, more than 12 million people are expected to fly, with Hartsfield Jackson International Airport in Atlanta expected to be the busiest in the country. Also making the list of the top ten busiest airports over Labor Day are Denver, Los Angeles, Dallas Fort-Worth, New York-JFK, Chicago O’Hare, Las Vegas, Orlando, Seattle and Miami.
Over 700,000 passengers are expected to depart from Atlanta starting September 2. Airport officials there say the worst time to travel is 10:00 p.m.
Take your patience with you when you’re traveling. Airports across the country have been seeing high flight disruption rates due to delays and cancellations. In fact, over 20% of flights, on average, were delayed at some of the busiest airports the first two weeks of August.
Chicago Midway International Airport topped the list of the worst airports in the country when it comes to delays, according to Hopper. Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and Dallas Love Field rounded out the top three on that list.
Industry officials say Labor Day airfare will cost roughly 20% more than it did last year. The good news, though, is fall airline tickets are expected to be 40% cheaper than they were during the peak of the summer season. http://gty.im/1237371187
