Fiery Crash Leaves One Dead in I-20 Wreck This Morning
There were two fatal collisions within minutes of one another in Richmond County early this morning.
In the first wreck, 77-year-old Coy Plummer was killed when his vehicle was hit on the driver’s side by another vehicle in the 4400 block of Mike Padgett Highway near Bennock Mill Road. The wreck was reported at 3:51 a.m. Plummer was pronounced dead at the scene a little over an hour later.
At 3:59 a.m. emergency crews were called to the site of an overturned vehicle on I-20 eastbound on the Bobby Jones Expressway ramp.
Coroner Mark Bowen said the driver lost control of the truck, it veered off the road and crashed into the I-20/I-520 overpass bridge. The truck burst into flames. The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Bowen said an autopsy will be performed. The victim’s identity will be released once positive identification has been made.
