Stacey Abrams will have to come off the campaign trail temporarily while she recovers from the coronavirus.  Abrams, the Democratic nominee in the Georgia Governor's race, will once again face the incumbent, Brian Kemp, in November.

Kemp narrowly defeated Abrams in a runoff election to win the governor's race in 2018.

Abrams delivered what she called "a major economic speech" yesterday at a brewery in downtown Atlanta.  Today, she tested positive for COVID-19.

Abrams said she is fully vaccinated and received both boosters.  She tested negative before her campaign speech Tuesday.  A campaign spokesman said many of the attendees at the event were wearing masks, but Abrams was not.

A campaign statement from spokesman Michael Holloman said, "This morning, Stacey Abrams tested positive for COVID-19 during routine testing.  She tests daily and tested negative via PCR Monday and negative via rapid test yesterday before her Georgia Thrives economic speech.  She is experiencing mild symptoms.  Consistent with CDC guidelines, she will isolate at home and looks forward to traveling across the state to meet Georgians as soon as possible."
