At 12:01 a.m. Friday, back-to-school items will be tax-free in South Carolina through Sunday.
Shoppers have 72 hours to take advantage of the sales tax, and any applicable local taxes, being lifted for the annual back-to-school sales tax holiday.
Items like clothing, accessories, shoes, computers, printers, school supplies, bed and bath products, backpacks, and even musical instruments will be tax-free whether they are purchased in-store or online. South Carolina is one of a few states that don’t place a dollar limit on purchases that are tax-free. Even coupons can be used this weekend for even greater savings.
You can get a complete list of eligible tax-free items at www.dor.sc.gov/taxfreeweekend.
South Carolina shoppers spent more than $24.5 million on tax-free merchandise last year.
Once again, there will be no sales tax-free weekend in Georgia. The peach state hasn’t had one since 2016.
