University of College/ShutterstockJames Davis, President and Chief Executive Officer of Piedmont Augusta and Piedmont McDuffie, formerly University Health Care System, is stepping down from the top post after 13 years.
During his tenure, Davis oversaw the acquisition of McDuffie Regional Medical Center and built a new upgraded facility in a more accessible area of the county; brought to fruition the partnership with Piedmont Healthcare; launched a partnership with Augusta Technical College to train more than 200 nurses and other ancillary staff on the Summerville Campus each year, starting in 2023; oversaw the purchase of the former Trinity Hospital which was later used to care for the majority of COVID-19 patients in need of hospitalization; and increased the organization's assets by 80 percent, from $418 million to $751 million.
"My goal was always to leave what was University Health Care System in a better position than I found it. I feel that I have accomplished that goal, and it is now time for a new CEO to step in my shoes," said Davis.
A committee made up of local Piedmont Augusta Board members and Piedmont Healthcare CEO Kevin Brown, will conduct a national search for Davis' replacement.
