This is the weekend you can stock up on all your back-to-school needs without paying any sales tax in South Carolina.
The sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday and ends at midnight Sunday.
Eligible items can be purchased both online and in stores without paying the state’s 6% sales tax and any applicable local taxes.
Some of the items that will be tax-exempt include clothing, shoes, school supplies, computers, and backpacks. You can get the complete list of items that will be tax-free at www.dor.sc.gov/taxfreeweekend.
School has already started in Edgefield, Burke, and McDuffie Counties. School starts Thursday for elementary students in Richmond County and all students in Columbia County. Richmond County K-8, middle and high school students start August 8. Students don’t go back to school in Aiken County until August 15. August 29 is back-to-school day in Lincoln County.
There will be no tax-free weekend in Georgia again. In fact, there hasn’t been one in the peach state since 2016.
