One man is in custody and a woman is being sought in connection with a kidnapping outside the Family Dollar store on Old McDuffie Road in Augusta earlier this month.
The 27-year-old male victim said he was standing outside the store on July 6 when the suspect drove up and accused the victim of firing shots at him the night before. The victim said he had no idea what the man was talking about. That's when a second person got out of the car, placed a bag over the victim's head and forced him into the car.
The suspects reportedly drove the victim to an area near MLK Boulevard and Mill Street. The victim told investigators he got away, but the male suspect fired shots at him, striking him in the leg. The victim ran to Fire Station Number Five nearby for help.
Since then, authorities have arrested 28-year-old Kadarius Cheatham and charged him with kidnapping, aggravated assault and weapons possession. They are looking for 25-year-old Tatiana Mayes in connection with the incident. Investigators say she faces the same charges. Mayes is known to frequent the areas of Hicks Street and Trinity Manor Apartments. Call the Richmond County Sheriff's Office if you have any information at (706) 821-1020.
