Second Arrest Made in Burke County Man’s Disappearance

Burke County authorities say a second person has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a man six years ago whose remains have never been found.

Thursday the U.S. Marshal's Office arrested 39-year-old Mitchell Lanell Lambert in Cummings, Georgia.  The Waynesboro man was transferred to the Burke County Detention Center where he's been charged with the armed robbery, kidnapping and murder of 63-year-old Simon Powell in June of 2016.

Earlier this month, authorities charged Stacey Welch of Waynesboro in connection with Powell's death.  Based on information she gave investigators, authorities searched two ponds in the county for Powell's remains recently.  Those searches turned up nothing, but authorities say they're in the process of draining a sizeable pond at an undisclosed location.

Meanwhile, investigators say they are looking for 43-year-old Crystal Gail Mundy Simmons for questioning in connection with the case. She is believed to have connections in the Columbia County area as well as in Alabama.
