Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced plans today for copper foil maker Denkai America to build a new manufacturing facility in Richmond County.

The $430 million facility will be built on a 115-acre site at the Augusta Corporate Park in south Augusta.  The company's initial investment will be $150 million to establish an electrodeposited (ED) copper foil production facility, with a focus on electric vehicle battery foil.

Denkai America's materials have typically been used in printed circuit board applications, primarily for the aerospace and defense industries, but are also now used in the lithium-ion batteries powering electric vehicles.

Construction on the new facility is expected to begin in September.  It will be a three-phase development with the facility full operational by December 2024.  A total of 250 jobs are expected to be created over the next five years.
