The Burke County Sheriff's Office has arrested a woman in connection with the disappearance and murder of a man there six years ago.

Sixty-three-year-old Simon Powell went missing June 1, 2016.  Authorities found his burned pickup truck on Wilson Road the following day.  The case has remained unsolved ever since.

Last month, Burke County Sheriff Alphonzo Williams announced a $30,000 reward was being offered for credible information that would lead to a resolution in the cold case.

Earlier this month, investigators said they were asking for help finding 38-year-old Stacey Lynn Welch, who was wanted for questioning in the case.  Today, officials announced Welch is in custody and has been charged with Powell's disappearance and murder.

"The case is still active and we expect to make other arrests as a result of today's arrest," said Williams.
