A man died just hours after being taken into custody Tuesday in Columbia County.

Major Steve Morris of the Columbia County Sheriff's Office says a deputy found 31-year-old Broderick Anthony Lovette unresponsive in a cell around midnight.  CPR was administered until EMS arrived.  Authorities say they were unable to revive him.  An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Officials say there were no obvious signs of trauma and no foul play is suspected.

Lovette was taken into custody Tuesday for his failure to appear in court on previous charges of aggravated assault and possession of Schedule II drugs.
