Grovetown Public Safety Officers were called to the 100 block of Fiske Street at 2:45 a.m. today in connection with a reported assault.

Three victims, including a three-year-old child, had been stabbed.  Police said the toddler had multiple stab and blunt force trauma wounds.

The other victims included the child's mother, Elizabeth Nelson, and her grandmother, Darlene Freund.  All three are undergoing treatment for their injuries, but their conditions have not been released.

The victims identified the suspect as Phillip Marshall of Pinetree Street in Grovetown.  They told authorities Marshall was a family acquaintance and appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance at the time of the incident.

Marshall fled before police arrived.  He was found at 6:45 a.m. today near the intersection of Katherine Street and Old Wrightsboro Road wearing only underwear. Police said he had multiple lacerations.  He is undergoing treatment.

Marshall will be charged with three counts of aggravated assault and more charges are pending.  He will be taken to the Columbia County Detention Center once he is released from the hospital.
