In a crowded field of candidates for the Augusta mayor’s race in the May 24th General Primary and Non-partisan election, two still remain. The race will be decided by a runoff on Tuesday, June 21.
Former Tax Commissioner Steven Kendrick was the top vote-getter in the primary, but it was just 105 votes more than the second place finisher, local businessman Garnett Johnson. The race goes to a runoff if no one secures at least 50 percent of the vote, plus one.
There are also two Augusta Commission races on the runoff ballot. In District 2, voters will choose between educator Von Pouncey and local realtor Stacy Pulliam. In District 10, the race is between Incumbent Commissioner John Clarke and former commissioner Wayne Guilfoyle.
Statewide, there are Democratic runoffs for Secretary of State, Lieutenant Governor, Insurance Commissioner and Labor Commissioner.
Polls will be open Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
