The Columbia County Sheriff's Office says phone scammers are at it again!
The caller identifies himself as a deputy at the sheriff's office, claiming there is a warrant for the person's arrest. The scammer also says you can get secure funds in the form of a cashier's check, money PAC gift card or Green Dot Debit Card, to avoid arrest.
Authorities say if you get such a call, hang up. They remind residents that law enforcement agencies never contact residents to tell them they can pay fees or fines by phone, wiring money, using pre-paid money cards or telegrams to avoid arrest.
