This upcoming Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the tragedy with so many lives lost, and families affected, on September 11, 2001.

Many organizations and businesses will be taking time on Saturday to remember and honor those lives that were lost.

Fort Gordon:

On Saturday, September 11, Fort Gordon will conduct a remembrance ceremony to honor the fallen, the first responders and the survivors of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The event will take place at the Barton Field reviewing stand and will begin at approximately 8:30 a.m. Brig. Gen. Paul T. Stanton, Cyber Center of Excellence and Fort Gordon commanding general will be the keynote speaker.

The Fort Gordon community is invited to join the ceremony virtually via livestream on the Garrison Facebook page: or attend in person. For health protection, ceremony attendees are asked to socially distance and wear masks.

Downtown Augusta:

On Saturday, Augusta University and the City of Augusta will join together for a 5K Walk/Run along with a memorial service.  The event will take place at 8 a.m. at the Douglas Barnard Amphitheater on Augusta University’s Summerville Campus. The day will start with a special ceremony, featuring guest speakers, performances and the presentation of the flag. The 5K will start afterward and go around campus. Proceeds from the 5K will go to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization that helps those who lost family members in the attacks and active military service members. Sign up for the 5K, HERE.
