Muffins are a popular, easy to grab and go breakfast food for many people. But there's been a recent recall of muffins at several retailers due to concerns of listeria.
The prepackaged muffins are from Give and Go and have been sold at Walmart, Stop & Shop, 7-Eleven and Sam's Club. The muffins in question are blueberry, double chocolate, banana nut, and others.
The FDA posted the notice of recall, noting that it was a voluntary recall by Give and Go Prepared Foods. They have a list of all affected products on the FDA website. Be aware that Give and Go prepackaged muffins are sold under different brand names.
No illnesses have been reported in relation to the recall, but the issue of possible contamination came during an environmental monitoring program. The recall was announced out of caution.
Listeria is a bacteria and it can cause issues, particularly in young children, the elderly and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include: high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
