An Augusta worker was shot and killed this morning and the search is on for the killer.
The Richmond County Sheriff's Office got the call just before 10:00 a.m. and responded to the 1200 block of 13th Avenue at MLK Jr. Boulevard. They found a male, whose name has not been released, with at least two gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sgt. William McCarty says a search is underway f0r 66 year old Smitty Melton of Augusta. He's black, six feet tall and weighs 210 pounds. He was seen leaving the area in a black Chevy S10 pickup. Melton should be considered armed and dangerous.
