A 12 year old Richmond County boy has died, one day after his mother allegedly beat him with a belt.

The Richmond County Coroner's office has confirmed 12 year old Derrick Camp of Forest Ridge Place died Sunday night at Augusta University Medical Center.

He suffered a head injury and had other notable injuries, according to the coroner's report.

Camp's mother, 32 year old Jasmine Camp, admitted to investigators she had beaten her son with a belt on Saturday.  She said she called for help after he became unconscious and started vomiting.  He was listed in critical condition and on life support early Sunday.

Meanwhile, Camp is in custody.  She was initially charged with cruelty to children in the first degree.  Those charges will be upgraded.  Her son's death is being treated as a homicide.
