The Columbia County School Board announced big changes today to proposed plans to hold graduation ceremonies in July at the James Brown Arena.

The dates and location have changed.

Graduation ceremonies for the class of 2020 in Columbia County will now be held Friday, May 29, and Saturday, May 30, at Evans Towne Center Park in Evans.

The school board said the change in venue was made in response to increased audience restrictions and facility costs made by the James Brown Arena administration due to ongoing Covid-19 threats to public safety.

Superintendent Dr. Sandra Carraway said "Holding commencement at Lady A is a cost-effective and convenient way for us to safely accommodate family and friends, as they celebrate the hard work of their graduates."  More information will be released in the coming days, according to Carraway.

Times and dates for commencement are as follows:

Harlem High School--Friday, May 29, at 4:30 p.m.

Greenbrier High School--Friday, May 29, 7:30 p.m.

Grovetown High School--Saturday, May 30, 9:30 a.m.

Lakeside High School--Saturday, May 30, 1:00 p.m.

Evans High School--Saturday, May 30, 4:30 p.m.
