South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster announced today that K-12 public schools will remain closed for the remainder of the semester, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  McMaster said he is extending distance learning for those students until the school year has ended.  McMaster had already called for colleges and universities in the state to continue with virtual learning for this term.

South Carolina Education Superintendent Molly Spearman said education officials across the state are working to ensure that commencement ceremonies will be held at some point for graduating seniors.

Spearman also announced that in the last month since distance learning began, the state has provided over 5 million meals to students in need.  Those meal distributions will continue at designated schools or they will be delivered until the school year ends.
