By now, you all know Hurricane Florence will soon make landfall on the coast.

As we continue to keep you updated on the latest hurricane alerts, we also wanted to share some life hacks to help get you through the storm, courtesy of USA Today.

Cooler

In the event the power goes out, rather than using a store bought cooler, you can turn your washing machine into a cooler.

It sounds weird but it’s actually genius.

Using your washing machine as a cooler means you won’t have to empty your cooler every time the ice melts.

Water

You’ve most likely stocked up on bottled water at this point, but don’t forget about having water around for other uses, such as washing your hands/face, or using the bathroom.

You can fill old water jugs or pails with water and store in your bathtub.

Washcloths

Put some washcloths in the freezer ahead of the storm. These will help you cool off if the power goes out and you don’t have air condition.

Makeshift doggie bathroom

If you have a dog, conditions will not be ideal to take your dog for a walk so he/she can do his business.

Ahead of the storm, purchase a kiddie pool and sod and create a place in your garage where your furkid can go to the bathroom.

Buy sod and put some in a kiddy pool and keep it in the garage (or safe place inside) so the dogs can potty during bad weather. #hurricaneseason #hurricane #animals #keepthemsafe #smarthacks #hurricanehacks #pinterest #pinterestmom
