Sad news to report today, as a Parkland Middle School Student was hit by a vehicle yesterday after he exited the school campus during a walkout.

According to USA Today, the student, Jonathan Benko, 11, left school with several other students who chose not to participate in the walkout.

The group of students were headed to a nearby park at the time Benko was struck.

Benko was transported to a nearby hospital where he later passed away from his injuries.

The accident occurred on Loop 375.

The other students in the group are being questioned by police.

It is believed the group exited the school with other students and then jumped over a fence and headed to the highway towards the park.
