Ga and SC to Split Cost of New I-20 Bridges

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal says the state will partner with South Carolina to replace bridges crossing the Savannah River and Augusta canal that are more than 50 years old.

Deal’s office says the estimated $75 million project will also add lanes near the first exit on I-20 in South Carolina.  State officials say the Georgia and South Carolina Departments of Transportation will pay a “proportional share” of initial engineering and construction costs.

More than 60,000 vehicles travel on I-20 around the Georgia-South Carolina line every day.  The replacement bridges will include three lanes of traffic in each direction, while the highway will widen to six lanes from four around the state line.
