Governor Nathan Deal is in Augusta today, along with the chairman of GW Pharmaceuticals, to talk about the possibility of clinical trials here of the company’s investigational marijuana-based drug to treat children with certain seizure disorders.

Dr. Geoffrey Guy will give a presentation on “Finding the Medicine in Marijuana” to students and staff at Georgia Regents University’s Health Sciences campus.

Deal is also meeting with researchers and potential statewide collaborators at GRU today.  GW Pharmaceuticals, GRU and the University System of Georgia have already signed a memorandum of understanding to take a look at holding clinical trials of the marijuana-based drug in Georgia.
