There’s been a lot of smoke in the Augusta area since yesterday and many want to know where it’s coming from.  Authorities say it’s coming from a mulch fire at an inert landfill fire on Gordon Highway in Richmond County.

Columbia County EMA Director Pam Tucker says the fire is expected to continue until we get some significant rainfall in the area.

Tucker said, “This is the same fire and smoke that was seen yesterday.  Some of the smoke wafted over our area overnight and then fumigated the ground after sunrise as the nocturnal inversion transitioned into a daytime convective boundary layer.”
