The 911 center in Augusta is getting five more dispatchers.

Augusta Commissioners approved hiring the additional employees to handle the high volume of calls that come into the center every day.

Officials say the 911 center handles roughly 300,000 calls every year.  The goal is to answer those calls within 10 seconds, but that hasn’t been possible most of the time due to the lack of personnel.
