Those interested in becoming Columbia County’s Tax Commissioner or District 3 Commissioner will have three days to qualify for the posts in June.
The Tax Commissioner’s job has been vacant since Kay Allen resigned in March. The county’s long-time commissioner was under scrutiny for fees she’d been collecting from the cities of Grovetown and Harlem. Many said the collections, which amounted to more than $160,000, violated state law.
Meanwhile, Allen’s husband, Charles, also submitted his resignation as District 3 commissioner at the same time.
Qualifying for both positions will be held June 23-25. The special election will coincide with the November 4 General Election.
