Today is the last day of practice at the Augusta National Golf Club before the 78th Masters Tournament gets underway tomorrow.
It’s also Par 3 day…certainly one of everyone’s favorite days on the course. You’ll see wives, children, grandchildren and even celebrities serving as caddies for the contest. The field will consist of tournament participants, non-competing past champions and honorary invitees.
There’s a bit of superstition surrounding the Par 3 contest. No golfer has ever won that contest and the Masters in the same year.
The first Par 3 contest was held in 1960 and was won by Sam Snead. Ted Potter Jr. was last year’s winner.
