A former Columbia County teenager has been arrested and charged with first degree murder in her father’s death in North Carolina over the weekend.
Officials say 17 year old Crystal Howell was arrested Sunday in Richmond County during what started out to be a traffic stop.
She was reportedly arrested after becoming unruly with the deputy. That’s when authorities learned she was initially sought for concealing her father’s death near Maggie Valley on Saturday. 50 year old Mike Howell’s body was found that afternoon by people who were interested in renting his property. Howell used to be a sports writer for the Columbia County News Times.
Crystal has been charged with first degree murder and is being held in the Richmond County Jail pending extradition to North Carolina.
